All of the yoga teachers at Ballarat Iyengar Yoga are either certified by the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) through the BKS Iyengar Yoga Association of Australia or are in training. Other Ballarat Iyengar Yoga teachers are trained by Shayna, Senior Intermediate 1 Yoga teacher, founder, director and principal teacher of Ballarat Iyengar Yoga. Ballarat Iyengar Yoga teachers regularly attend training and workshops with either senior teachers in Australia or with members of the Iyengar family in India.
Director of BIY, Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher Shayna Ogden started yoga classes at sixteen. At 28, she discovered Iyengar yoga and has been studying and practicing it for 20 years. She is a certificated Iyengar Yoga teacher (Senior Intermediate Level 1) and has studied with senior Iyengar yoga teachers in Australia and attends the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India. She has served on the Board of the BKS Iyengar Yoga Association of Australia as secretary. She is also sits on assessment panels for junior yoga teachers wishing to gain Iyengar yoga teacher certification. Shayna Ogden trained with Pixie Lillas, Senior Iyengar Yoga teacher, co-founder, director and principal teacher of Balmain Iyengar Yoga Studio. Shayna studied directly with Pixie for ten years, including nearly six years of teacher training. She returns to Balmain regularly to continue her professional development as a senior teacher. Shayna completed a degree in mechanical engineering in Melbourne and worked in the oil industry and engineering consulting for ten years. In 2003, she moved to Glenlyon in Central Victoria with her partner and opened Daylesford Yoga. In 2013 Shayna opened Ballarat Iyengar Yoga. She is the director and principal teacher of the school.
Yoga Teacher Cara Steele began attending Iyengar yoga classes eight years ago. She was soon captivated by the practice and has been committed to studying and practicing yoga ever since. Cara has completed degrees in psychology and applied statistics. For the past eight years she has worked in universities and in the health sector undertaking social, organisational and health services research. Originally from Melbourne, Cara now calls Ballarat home. Cara is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher (Introductory level), trained by Shayna Ogden at Ballarat Iyengar Yoga.
Yoga Teacher Candace Schreiner first attended Iyengar Yoga classes in her early 20’s, whilst working as a registered nurse in Melbourne. She was impressed by the quality, precision and high standard of teaching in this form of Yoga. Candace moved back to Ballarat in 2007 with her husband and completed a course in Hatha Yoga in 2012 and has taught yoga in Ballarat since then. Candace has undertaken yoga teacher training in Iyengar Yoga with Shayna Odgen. She feels it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn from a senior teacher with such a deep level of understanding and experience. Candace is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher (Introductory level). Candace has also completed a Masters in Art-Therapy and works as a registered art-therapist in the Ballarat region.
Trainee Teacher Glenys has been a student of Iyengar Yoga for nine years. She is committed to the teaching of BKS Iyengar for its physical and mental benefits and because it is experiential in design.
A retired Primary School Teacher and a long-time resident of Ballarat, she is looking forward to growing and learning as a student and as a teacher.
